As I sit here after a nice cool soothing shower, I think back to our short ride tonight. Tonight for Gail it was all about pace, which meant that I could actually keep her in my sights the entire ride! I'm not the most skilled cyclist, but I do understand that if we are to complete the MS150, yes, I said "WE" because Gail has decided to ride with me this year. Just one more thing to add to our list of things we have done together, I couldn't be happier! We have decided to dedicate the ride to Carolyn, Deb, Jimmy, Jessie, Phil and in memory of Rob. If we are to complete the 50 miles each day we will need to keep a consistent pace on our bikes. If you go out too strong we will crash and burn. It's important to keep in mind that we have a rather lengthy ride ahead and the only way to get through it is to pace ourselves.
The MS150 is not a race, it is a ride. Rides are to be finished, races are to be won. So in just a few weeks we will be riding to finish the race. To keep pace so that we can finish in style. Last year I had two goals...one, was to finish the race. The second goal was to not be last...just one of those competitive issues I have. Being a newbie I had no idea what would happen once the race started.
Getting back to pace, to me, learning to pace means that I am going to ride each day to become familiar with my bike, to learn to ride comfortably on my bike making necessary adjustments, and to find a cadence that will sustain the mileage I need to finish the race.
A Christian's life is similar to learning the pace on a bike. We should get into our bible each day to learn about our Savior. To be able to make adjustments in our life, we need to know what God's word says about certain situations. I flounder through life when I'm not in the instruction manual daily. God wants us to know him better and the best way to do that is to spend time in His word. And lastly, my walk through life would be meaningless if I were not able to pray to my Heavenly Father, to know He is there with me to help me sustain the mileage I need to finish the race of life.
Romans 8:18-21 says "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God."
Keep the pace, because anything that is going on in our lives today will not compare to the blessings we will receive from our Heavenly Father!
